Dear all,
I run an english language website on eastern European military history. I recently received an email from one of your members correcting an error on my website. That is that the Hussites never used the Goose as a standard. Could any one provide any information on whether the goose was used or was not used. I notice that it appears on the standards in this photo

my website is

I'd welcome all corrections/suggestions. My Czech is not very good and the source is heavily based on other language books (french/German/English)

Regards
Matt

Hi Matt,

In German medieval chronicles occured drawings of Hussite banners (standards), where figures goose or goose drinking from chalice. Those drawings are not authentic, they served only to ridicule Hussites. Why just goose? Goose in Czech language = Husa. Husa is close to reformer’s surname Jan Hus…
